Making Breakfast in Bed for Mom
Surprise Mom with Breakfast in Bed
For years my father woke my mom up on Mother's day
with
breakfast in bed. It was always memorable for her. She would wake up out
of a
peaceful sleep to the sound of the smoke detector going off. It was then
that
she realized it must be Mother's day. He didn't want her to think that
she was
not needed in the kitchen so he took every effort to prove is inability
to make
breakfast. Burnt toast and warm water was usually the first course.
However,
the big surprise was that he had a nice breakfast waiting. I believe the
first
time he made her breakfast for Mother's Day he didn't mean to set off
the smoke
detector, but because it was so funny it became a tradition we blessed
her with
for years.
A quick and relatively painless breakfast to make
for mom is
yogurt topped with granola and fresh fruit. Toast, (not burned) or her
favorite
muffins along with juice will complete the meal. Another quick
breakfast, but
requires a pan, is an omelet with green peppers and mushrooms. If you're
really
brave you can sprinkle cheese in the middle before you close it up.
Some more traditional Mother's Day breakfasts
include,
cinnamon rolls, eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy and many types of
fresh fruit
smoothies. Smoothies are not difficult to make. A blender is needed
along with
her favorite fruit, vanilla or plain yogurt, a small amount of milk and
sugar.
1/2 cup sliced fresh strawberries, blueberries,
peaches or
blackberries
1 tablespoon sugar or use sugar substitute
1 cup vanilla or plain yogurt (8 ounces)
3/4 cup milk
Fresh fruit for garnish if desired
Mix all these in a blender for about a minute. You
will have
a perfect compliment to any breakfast in no time.
Flowers brought into her room along with handmade
cards from
her children will complete her morning. Not only will she feel pampered,
but
just the thought will cheer her heart.
